reduce, reuse, recycle RESOLUTIONS...

Well, as the year comes to an end, it is fun to think back and plan for the future. I, like most others, like to evaluate my year and think of things I could do to make the new year better. Each year my list is pretty much the same
(and doesn't make it through April) -
SO, this year, I decided to share with all of you...

my New Years Resolutions - from 21 years ago

(taken from the diary of Dede, dated 1/1/88)
and I quote {clear throat}
1. get a boyfriend
2. be a good friend
3. weigh 105 pounds
4. get good grades
5. be 16!
6. make 10 more friends, at least 4 male
7. think of others
8. be nice to Annie
9. write people, etc...

Well, I think I was able to accomplish a few of those and if nothing else,
I am for sure making my kids write in their journals tomorrow!
Happy New Year!

tough guys wear sequins...

Chases favorite present this Christmas was one he got for his Panda Bear! While we were at Build a Bear he picked out a beautiful silver sequin purse for Panda. On the drive home, we said, "put the purse on Panda's arm" to which he responded by throwing Panda on the ground and saying, "no, my arm!". That night, as everyone was gathering their stuffed animals to go to bed, he was gathering his purse.

good thing he is a "tough guy"!

christmas day...

The kids woke up on Christmas morning full of excitement. It was 8:30 (what is the deal with kids these days?? I was ALWAYS up by 6!) and everyone was awake but Wesley. The same Wesley that has told me how many days until Christmas the second he awoke for the last 30 days! After about 10 minutes of whispering in his ear about Santa's arrival and no more days until Christmas, his eyes finally popped and he was ready! Santa did not disappoint and there were smiles all around (I guess the elf didn't snitch!)! About 10 minutes into the frenzy, the power went out (which made me VERY grateful non of the kids asked for anything that required an outlet!). The next few hours were spent reading directions (Bill) and claims of not knowing how it worked (me)! The excitement of all the snow overtook the excitement of presents (for most) as the snow gear came on and the kids went outside (to "help" shovel)! Once Bill got a nice path cleared for us, we headed over to Carin's for the Miller Family Christmas Party. We had a great dinner, followed by some wonderful musical entertainment! After the cousins exchanged gifts we had a festive game of "grab bag" (a Miller family favorite!). Poor Wesley was getting stuck with crystal angels and beaded necklaces, but he did a good job persuading his Nana and Aunt to "steal" them (suckers!). Chase loves candy cane suckers - so does Sophie! Unfortunately, there is only one! Taking turns quickly got old, which led to an aggressive round of tug-o-war! Chase (surprisingly) won, which resulted in Sophie going to the stairs, posing just right and turning to give us all her pouty face! It was great! Don't feel too bad for little Sophie - I am sure she got another lick or two before the night was over!
We had a great Christmas - filled with gratitude, family and love (thinking of and missing all of those family members that weren't with us!)! I hope your day was just as special!

christmas eve...

We had our annual Ryan Family Christmas Eve Party here on Wednesday night.
It was a night was filled with good company, yummy food, fun presents and a great game of Christmas pictionary (which included a very interesting picture, drawn by Robert, of "the Nutcracker"!). We missed all of you out -a-staters who weren't with us this year!

build a tradition...

For a few years now (Cameron says 4 - and he has a better memory than I do - so I will believe him) Nana has taken the kids to Build a Bear for Christmas. It has turned into one of my boys favorite parts of Christmas!
They LOVE the animals they pick and play with them ALL year! Here is Cameron & Eli, Chase & Panda Bear, Wesley & Doggy and Reagan & Din-o-myte!
another tradition...
I make them pajama's every year for them to open and wear on Christmas Eve. One of my favorite memories of Christmas as a child was getting to open my new pajama's and wear them to bed on Christmas Eve! Chase loved his new pj's (which was a good thing - he is getting really picky about what he will wear!) but, his accompanying slippers were his favorite part by far! Here they are ANXIOUSLY awaiting to be set free - when they wake up they have to come to my our room first, once everyone is together the fun begins!
Best part - they didn't get up until 8:30!!
(for better pictures, you can check out Carin's post here!)

weather alert...

We interrupt Christmas posts to bring you...a winter storm warning! Apparently, it isn't a very wide spread storm most of the people we have talked to today haven't seen any snow
(including Cameron, who hasn't taken his face off of his new DS)! It has snowed nonstop since we awoke this morning - we even had a power outage for an hour or so!! We are working very hard to get out of the driveway (and by "we", of course, I mean Bill - I am, however, being very supportive and taking pictures!)!
Hot chocolate anyone??

merry christmas to all...

I hope you all have a great Christmas.
We are so excited to be able to relax (starting today at 1 p.m. - and not a minute sooner!), hang out with family and celebrate the birth of our Savior!
Merry Christmas!

some holiday cheer...

It stinks being sick during the holidays - but you know what stinks more?
when you pick up your 2nd kids antibiotic and realize that he needs the same dosage as the first kid, but the first kid only got one bottle and the second kid got two bottles. Good thing for a friendly pharmacist that said he would whip up another bottle for me that I can pick up at
WALMART

from 9-7
two days before CHRISTMAS!
Who in their right mind goes to walmart today - during normal business hours - with 4 kids? During the holiday season I always wake up too early and then I start thinking of all the things I still need to do and then I can't go back to sleep. It is a great time to hit the 24 hour stores! Usually, Walmart is pretty empty from 4-5 a.m. and it is stocked (which wasn't the case last night at midnight!). Luckily, we were planning on heading out today anyways since Bill FINALLY told me what he wanted for Christmas LAST NIGHT!
(btw - I informed the 2 kids who haven't had strep throat yet, that their deadline is this morning if they want to be well enough to go to the family Christmas parties - including the one here tomorrow! Hopefully they are listening!)

things I am LOVING this Christmas...

can you say yum?? this is the best smelling soap ever! I wonder if it tastes as good as it smells?? I bet one of my kids (cough-Wesley-cough) will do something today that deserves a little soap in the mouth - I will test it out and report back!!
she has a song on this album called Sleep Well Little Children/What a Wonderful World - it is beautiful! (for inspiration on this post, I have it on repeat right now!)I am loving the 4 wheeler - the fact that Bill gets to do 360's in the street afterwards, is the ONLY reason I get my driveway plowed!
because without it, I would be nothing!
and finally...
for providing many last minute nutritious dinners AND because without them (and a sweet 2 year old) I wouldn't have this...

i'd like to second that...

Some of you have been leaving some awesome comments like...
"You are the most fun mom ever!" &
"you are too funny!!" &
"Looks like you get to be the favorite mommy too!" &
"you are at the top of my favorite people in my world list."
I know someone who doesn't agree...

meet Cameron. Cameron (and the other boys) have been off track since last Friday (FOR 30 DAYS!!!!). Today I decided to go through his backpack with him.
We found a few unfinished projects.Cameron gets to now do all the work that he could of done in class. He also gets to flatten them out so they will look presentable when he hands them in. If he chooses to sit at the kitchen table and not do anything but talk to himself (like he is doing right now) he doesn't get to have any of his Christmas presents. He is aloud to open them on Christmas and look at them, but he will not get to play with one thing until ALL of this homework is done! I might even throw in an extra book report for good measure! I wonder what kinda comment he would leave right now? I bet it wouldn't be pretty!

tradition....

I have enjoyed seeing all the wonderful, Christ centered, Christmas traditions on other blogs out there. I am hoping to employ some of them and in the mean time I will share one of ours (not necessarily Christ centered, but a tradition nonetheless) with you. Every year we go to the planetarium and see
Santa vs. the Snowman in 3D! We missed it last year when we left for Arizona for the month of December (very tempting to not make that a tradition!) and it was all the kids could talk about!! So, we were sure to fit it in early this year! Unfortunately my camera battery died right after this picture (too bad, I looked awesome in those glasses!). The best part was at the beginning, Santa is saying hi to everyone and his naughty/nice computer crashes - he has to make his quota so he is going to pick one kid out of the audience to be on his naughty list - since it is in 3D when he points everyone thinks he is pointing at them - knowing this would happen and sitting right next to Wesley, is what made it fun. Right when he pointed (to Wesley) I said, "I can't believe he picked you!! You better start being nice!" to which he replied, "I know, I know."! I very well might be on Santa's naughty list by the time Christmas gets here, it is just too fun to tease him!

to grandmother's house we go...

Nana loves her decorations and this year she invited us to come help her put them up. Not everyone was healthy so Carin, Ellie, Kate, Cameron and I were the lucky (I use this word loosely) ones!! The kids loved having a close, hands on look at everything!(sorry about the picture mom - it was the only one Carin sent me - she was obviously looking for the cutest one of her girls - although, in her defense, there probably weren't very many good ones of Kate since you poked her in the eye!) After all the decorations were in place we walked around the complex to see all the pretty lights! My favorite sight was the old couple making out in the hot tub, but I didn't get a picture of that - sorry or your welcome! We will have to be sure to get the other boys over there to see the lights too!
My dad also has his annual family Christmas site up and running - click HERE if you want to check out what the Miller's are up to!

oh, the pressure....

We went to The Festival of Trees on Saturday and guess who was there??
Santa!!
The boys were so excited - well, most of the boys. Wesley didn't want to see Santa this year - he wasn't scared but he knew that Santa knew - Wesley knew he better watch out, he better not pout, he better not cry -he knew Santa's making a list, He's checking it twice, He's gonna find out who's naughty or nice - he knew that Santa knows if you've been bad or good. He didn't want to see Santa because he knew he was NAUGHTY! He did eventually cave (probably, after seeing Cameron survive) and tell Santa what he wanted for Christmas - when he was done, he whispered in my ear "he didn't ask". He thought he was safe, until we got home and my new (best) friend appeared...this little elf is helping Santa by keeping an eye on the boys. I first pointed him out when Wesley was throwing a little fit. I told Wesley that this little elf was Santa's helper and was going to tell Santa if he was being good or not. A few minutes later, Wesley was trying to get out of going to church (again) - I told him he had to go because he couldn't stay home by himself - he said, "the elf can watch me!". Shortly after that (while Wesley was getting ready for church) the elf fell - I put him back up on the shelf (apparently facing a different direction)- about an hour later Wesley was being mean to Chase - I just looked at Wesley and then looked at the elf. Wesley looked up and noticed the elf was staring straight at him, to which he replied, "why does that elf always have to watch me? I just want to scratch him in the face!" - realizing Santa wouldn't like that and that the elf is following him, he has vowed to try to be NICE!

play, play, play...

In my attempt to be the favorite Aunt (and to get out of the house after a LONG weekend), me and the crew went to Jumping Jacks! My hidden agenda was to completely wear the kids out (2 are now asleep - the other 2 are taking turns farting) Here is a picture for Mike and Annie who miss their kiddos SO BAD while they are laying on the beach, soaking up the sun, snorkeling, sleeping in (etc. ) in Hawaii (ya - I don't believe them either)! When Chase told Braden to "come on" today, Braden said, "you aren't my boss, only Wesley is!". That Wesley is one smart resourceful kid! Speaking of the trickster (now that they are done farting) he just told Braden where to hide while he counted to 10 - Braden obeyed - he found him! Chase likes to think he is the boss of sweet little Grace - she doesn't really understand him, so it works out well. He is really jealous of her, or the fact that she still gets to have a BINKY! He just stares and stares at it! He also wants to sit in the high chair again and crawled around the whole time they were at Jumping Jacks! Favorite Aunts also give lots of treats - here they are with their whistle pops (be glad this is not a video - you can't even image the sound coming out of those things during this picture) and don't worry Mike - I didn't give Grace any candy (she was too busy sucking on french fries!). So, Mike and Annie, I am sorry to say that your kids don't miss you at all - haven't even asked for you - they will probably even cry when you come get them! Aloha!

sunday, sunday....

We have had a few sickies here, which on Sunday translates to...
VACATION FROM CHURCH DAY!!
Chase (one of the ill folk) was NOT happy about this news - he loves church and looks forward to it every week (a true angel)! To make him happy I let him pick out his clothes - but he took it a step farther...

first he brought me his tie - then his church shoes - then his necklace - then his church socks! Then he said he was ready to go. I told him he still wasn't going - this is how he responded...about this same time, Wesley (who is not a church loving angel) came down with a really wicked case of the (fake) hiccups and informed me that he would have to stay home too!

here he is, telling Chase, in his high pitch sweet voice that he would help take care of him!

Chase is thrilled about this news! almost as happy as me!

Wesley was informed that all sick people that were staying home (including me) were taking a LONG nap - he agreed - all was settled! Surprise, surprise - guess who DIDN'T get a nap?? For over 2 hours, Chase sat in his crib repeating over and over "I need to go to church" - Wesley came in my room about every 15 minutes asking if he took a long nap yet - maybe church is easier than a "Sunday vacation"?! One last photo (and a good reminder of why we go to church every week)...

I am not quite sure if this is a sweet little boy who got into his moms purse or if he saw too many stories about Britney on Extra?? Either way, we will be sure to make it next week!

thankful for this day...

We LOVE going to Bill's grandparents on Thanksgiving. Not only do we get to visit with Grandpa and Grandma Great, we also get to play on their 113 acre farm, filled with tractors, animals, old houses, hay to climb, paths to explore and places to hide...pretty much a young boys dream! Not many of us made it this year, but what we lacked in family we made up for in weather. It was a beautiful, cloudy (beware, many pictures ahead) day! I am thankful for this crew! the boys with their sweet niece, Mariana!

Every year Bill is very anal dedicated to watching the turkey fry - he won't leave its side! I am glad it was a nice day so he didn't have to freeze (as he has in the past!)! This was his best turkey yet!! (and as you can see, there was time to play afterwards)

I had so much fun following the boys around with my camera - I love old stuff and am always excited about the "treasures" I can find on the farm!Cameron played with sticks most of the time we where there - and hardly got in trouble (that's what acres and acres give you - space - and much better odds of staying out of trouble - or at least not getting caught!)Reagan was my photo scout. Every 10 minutes he had found another place I could take a picture of him - both of these were his idea (and many many more)!I don't know if you noticed Wesley in the previous pictures - he was a picture PILL today! He ruined many a great group shots with his silly faces and crossed eyes. He couldn't quit laughing after he saw them downloaded (he thinks he is funnier than he really is!)Last Thanksgiving Chase still couldn't walk - this year, he didn't want to come back inside. He loved running in the fields and looking at all the "blue berries" (known to most as goat poop). This little chair he is sitting on is one of the treasures I found - Bill wouldn't let me bring it home (might have to head back up without him!).
We are so lucky to be surrounded by family and to spend precious time with them. I hope you all had as good of a day as we did! Happy Thanksgiving!
